General Session: A Minor on Campus is Sexually Abused, Now What?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The media and ongoing legislative changes provide consistent reminders that colleges and universities need to manage the risks of minors on campus. But what happens when the unthinkable happens – an employee, volunteer, or another program participant is accused of sexually abusing a minor in one of your programs. The actions an institution takes in these critical initial moments and those that follow set the stage for a variety of emotions, opinions, and legal exposures that may last years, even decades. Having the right abuse prevention system in place and knowing what to expect in the aftermath can make all the difference.
This presentation will provide leadership and risk managers with examples from Praesidium’s decades of experience in the field and discuss the need for a crisis response plan that addresses victims’ and family assistance and management of communications.

As a result of participating in this session, attendees will learn:
• What to expect in the moment when sexual of abuse of a minor is alleged
• How to provide immediate help and resources for victims, parents, and the community
• How to manage ongoing relations with authorities, parents, and the community
• How to move forward and promote prevention
