One is the Loneliest Number - Risk Management and Insurance at Small Institutions

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Running a risk management and insurance program with just one person is a daunting task. Don’t despair! It has been done before and you can do it, too. Join two risk management and insurance professionals from small private schools and hear how they survived to tell about it. Small colleges and universities rely on a sense of tradition in conducting operations and many don’t have a dedicated risk manager. The speakers will describe their journeys as champions of risk management in environments that are being introduced to the idea of risk.

This session will describe the strengths and weaknesses in a ‘one man show’. Guidance will be provided on how to identify, evaluate and prioritize risk and insurance programs on a small campus. Learn how the two schools developed a culture of risk awareness across campus. Learn about different resources available and how to effectively leverage them to accomplish goals. Along with the presenters, the attendees will be encouraged to share strategies that worked and those that didn’t.

As a result of participating in this session:
 Attendees will learn how to pick your battles, know when and when not to speak up.
 How to use your time and resources effectively and how to effectively translate ‘Risk Management’ for the rest of the campus.
 They will also learn how to identify and create risk partnerships on campus.
